Ron Weasley's Horrible Birthday
Ron Weasley's Horrible Birthday
Ron Weasley's seventeenth birthday didn't start off too well. Despite receiving many gifts from family and friends, his usual knack for attracting disaster led him to open a box of chocolates he found on the floor. Unbeknownst to him, the box was the same one that Harry had received from Romilda Vane and contained a love potion.
After eating the chocolates, Ron fell deeply in love with Romilda and completely forgot about his relationship with Lavender Brown. Harry, noticing Ron's strange behavior, realized that he was under the influence of the potion and took him to Professor Slughorn's office.
Slughorn helped Ron by giving him an antidote, which returned him to his normal self. To celebrate Ron's birthday, Slughorn offered him a drink from a special bottle of mead that he had originally intended to give Dumbledore as a gift.
Before anyone could even wish him a happy birthday, Ron gulped down the drink. Within minutes, he began to exhibit strange symptoms and tremors. Harry and Slughorn were worried, but Harry fortunately remembered a quick antidote for this type of poison from the Half-Blood Prince and was able to save Ron.
In a single day, Ron ended his relationship with Lavender, began a short-lived relationship with Romilda, and was poisoned. It was a birthday he would never forget.
