Frodo's Journey: The Wounds That Marked His Body and Soul
Introduction:
On October 6, 3018 of the Third Age, Frodo Baggins was stabbed in the shoulder by a Morgul blade during his journey from the Shire to Rivendell. The Nazgûl intended to stab his heart with the blade, which remains in the wound. If they had succeeded, Frodo would have become a wraith like them, only weaker and under their command.
The wound from the Morgul blade:
Fortunately, the stab wound missed his heart and hit his shoulder instead. A fragment of the blade's blade remained in his closed wound, and Frodo endured it for seventeen days, even though it was capable of quickly conquering powerful warriors. This means that hobbits have great strength. Elrond watched over his recovery for days until he removed the buried splinter that was on its way in.
The bite of Shelob:
On March 13, 3019, while Frodo was trying to escape from Shelob's lair, the spider came up behind him and bit him on the neck. The orcs then took him and put him in the tower. When Sam found him at the top of the tower, he was naked and had a whiplash mark on his back.
The attack by Gollum:
On Mount Doom, just moments before the ring was destroyed, Gollum clashed with Frodo, took the finger he was wearing the ring on between his teeth, and cut it off. Because of this, Frodo became known as "Frodo of the Nine Fingers."
The wounds on Frodo's soul:
These were the wounds that afflicted Frodo's body during the journey to destroy the Ring, but what afflicted his soul was even greater. After the Ring was destroyed, he would fall ill on the anniversary of the Morgul blade's stabbing, and on the anniversary of Shelob's bite as well. It seemed that he would never be healed of these wounds as long as he remained in Middle-earth. So he and the other Ring-bearers were allowed to go to the West, where there is healing for all wounds and diseases.
Conclusion:
Frodo Baggins' journey to destroy the One Ring was a long and arduous one. He faced many dangers along the way, and his body and soul were both scarred by the experience. However, in the end, he was successful in his quest, and he was able to find peace and healing in the West.
